We're Hiring
Farmer Joe's Gardens brings live hatching programs into classrooms — kids watch chicks, quail and ducklings hatch over five weeks — and rents backyard chicken coops to families across Connecticut and New York. We're looking for one person to join us for the 2027 season.
What the job is
Most of the work is delivering incubators to schools, showing the teacher how to run them, and going back five weeks later to collect everything. Plus keeping our equipment clean between programs, and some coop deliveries to families in spring.
Being straight with you
School deliveries run to a bell schedule and a calendar nobody can move — when a hatch is due, it's due. Our delivery days are Mondays through Thursdays. Spring coop days can be long. November through January is quiet. This is roughly 30–50 working days a year, not a salary.
It suits someone who's retired, or who already has a job, and wants steady part-time work with some purpose in it.
What matters to us
- You show up when you said you would. This outranks everything else.
- You're comfortable in a school — professional with staff, warm with kids.
- Calm with animals, calm with people.
- You clean properly when nobody is watching.
- Clean driving record and comfort with a loaded vehicle.
- Willing to complete a background check — we run one on everyone.
- Farm, animal or classroom experience is a plus, never a requirement. We train.
Pay
$20–$23 per hour. $20 during paid training this fall, $23 once you're running deliveries on your own, plus end-of-season bonuses in June and November. This is a part-time seasonal position and does not include health or retirement benefits.
